Opening September 12, 2006, Wako Works of Art is very pleased to present a two-person exhibition by Gabriel Lester and Jordan Wolfson, as conducted by Yukie Kamiya, adjunct curator at New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York. Although the two artists have exhibited internationally, this will be the first time for both to be shown in Japan; and like a four-handed performance using a single piano, one artist's "sound" work with another's "image" created by four hands will be orchestrated into a harmonious, collaborative installation in a single space.

Gabriel Lester

Born 1972 in Amsterdam, currently working and living in Brussels.
After graduating from Rijksakademie, Amsterdam, the artist has exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including in Europe and South America, and last year, took part in ISCP New York's residency program. In 2005's Goteborg Biennale, Lester presented a performance piece made through an extensive research of New York Public Library's silent film score archive and rerecording a number of compositions from 1899 to 1929 with a professional pianist. The artist is also slated to appear in this year's Busan Biennale in Korea.

Jordan Wolfson

Born 1980 in New York, currently working and living in Berlin and New York.
After having studied and participated in residencies in various countries such as the US, Sweden and Germany, the artist received much acclaim at the 2006 Whitney Biennial with his 16 mm silent film work, which quotes and translates the last speech from Charlie Chaplin's The Great Dictator into sign language. He has also curated a 24-hour performance project, extending his artistic activities. Wolfson will be participating in this year's Young Artists' Biennale in Bucharest and a group show at Serpentine Gallery in London.
